You’re on a field trip to the art museum with your class. As you’re walking
through the gallery, you suddenly realize that the people in the paintings can talk
to you! What are they saying?

Jeastel Mae Maratas

I am just a lonely girl, I don’t talk, I don’t socialize. I prefer to be alone than to be with someone.

“Hey! You poor brat! Come here! Faster! The bus is about to leave!” said Elijah, my classmate. I quickly packed up my things and ran towards the bus. When I get in, oh! I know this, already, there’s no vacant seat left for me. Left with no choice, I just sit on the floor and fell asleep.

“Hey, wake up!”

“Excuse me?”

“Oh God! What you doing?”

I wake up because of that noise. I slowly open my eyes and saw that they’re already outside. I immediately stood up, and went outside. “Wow” one word just came out from my mouth.

“Omg! I’m excited! Let’s go inside!”

“Oh students, be careful, you might ruin things inside.” Teacher Azi said.

They’re running inside, and so am I. One step, all I can say is, beautiful. Two steps, wonderful. Three steps, oh God! This place is magical! Paintings! Paintings everywhere! All are beautiful but only one painting caught my attention. A painting of a lady….a painting of myself. Then suddenly all went black.

Where am I? Am I drowning? Why I’m not in the museum? Where are they? Am I dead?

“No you’re not.”

I suddenly turned my back when I hear that familiar voice.

“W-who are y-you?”

“I am you.” She said smiling.

“What? Huh? How?” I said in a shivering voice.

She started walking slowly, I look around. Paintings, so many paintings, and all are beautiful.

“Hey lady!”

“Huh?” I suddenly look at the painting beside me and realized they’re talking!

“Help me!”

“Help us!”

I-I don’t understand?! What happened?! Why are the people on the paintings talk? Why do I hear them?!

“That’s because you’re the prophecy, Leigh.”

“Prophecy? What!? What are you talking about?”

“You are here, not by accident, but because you are destined to be here.”

“I-I don’t understand.” I said while shaking my head.

“You’ll understand soon…” and she started walking again. I follow her, until she stop. She’s walking gracefully, she’s beautiful.

“See this?” She said and point out one painting.

“T-that’s our h-house. That o-one is my father and my m-mother who all passed away.”

“No they’re not”

“What do you mean?” I ask her while walking. And she just smile.

“Leigh, help!!”

“Help us!!!”

I look around and shock to see all the paintings are talking!

“What?? Why me!!!”

“Shut up, she’ll find out that soon.” Said the lady with the same face of mine. We continued walking, and stop again at one painting. That’s the most beautiful painting I’ve ever seen. I looked at her.

“That’s m-me”

“That’s us, when we’re still young.” She said smiling.

“Huh? How?”

“Sit down” and like a servant, I automatically sit.

“See all the paintings?” She said pointing all the paintings around.

“That’s your work, my work, our work” She said.

I looked at her with confused face.

“We worked them at night, you work them, when you’re asleep.”

“I don’t understand.” I said.

She shake her head. “And now they’re begging for mercy”.

“Mercy? Why?”

“Cause you work them, you made them alive” She sigh. “In the prophecy, a girl named Leigh will be the one who will broke the spell.”

“What spell?”

“Remember the paintbrush your father gave to you? I owned that paintbrush, your father just stole it from me and who’ll ever person who’ll going to receive it will be destined to break the spell”.

“And why me?”

“At night, when you’re sleeping, your spirit point, and that’s them”. She said and point out all the paintings around, begging and crying.

“W-what I’m going to do to break the spell?”

“Be with us”

“You can’t say no Leigh!”

“No! I will not leave my brother! I will not be here forever!” I said and ran as fast as I can.

“Run Leigh run. But remember, prophecy will be prophecy, you can’t change nor escape it.”

“Ms. Leigh! Why are you sleeping in the middle of the floor?!”

I suddenly wake up, catching my breath.

“Get up! We’ll go now!” Said teacher Azi.

God! All was just a dream! Thanks God! Thanks!

“No, you’re not dreaming, Leigh.”

“You?! Why are you here?!” I shout.

“I’ll forever be with you!”

“No!!!” I said and ran out.
